Zika Virus come under the Flaviviridae virus family which is caused by the Aedes mosquitoes. Zika Virus was first isolated in 1947 in Zika Forest of Uganda.
In the year between 2007-2016, the virus spread eastward drastically. Zika Fever is the infection which is caused by this virus.
Symptoms Of Zika Fever
Zika Fever is caused by the Zika Virus. The symptoms are very mild just same as the dengue fever. There is no such specific treatment of this fever so, paracetamol can help to the symptoms. Along with that other symptoms may be fever, headache, rashes, joint pain and red eyes.
Transmission methods
Zika Virus is transmitted by the Aedes mosquitoes such as A. aegypti etc. Aedes mosquitoes are the female mosquitoes which are usually active in day-time. Zika Virus is found in so many species of mosquitoes. It can also be transmitted between the partners through sex. In 2016 through sexual transmission, this virus has been documented in countries France, Italy, Chile, Argentina, US and New Zealand. It can also transmit from infected mother to her fetus. Due to Blood transfusion also it can be transmitted between 2 persons. Two cases have been reported globally from Brazil.
Prevention Against Zika Virus
Prevention involves the following:
- Decreasing mosquitoes bites in the affected area by using insect repellent, covering the whole body, mosquito nets.
- Proper use of condoms.
- Pregnant women should not travel to affected areas.
- Follow the product directions and apply in the same way.
- Stay and sleep in the air-conditioned room.
What You Should Keep In Mind If You Are Traveling Somewhere?
Don’t travel to the affected countries. The Center for Disease Control(CDC) has updated the list of some affected countries so, don’t plan your travel there.
If you are already in an infected area so follow the prevention measures which are mentioned earlier.
As the symptoms are very mild so even though you got a mild fever go to the nearest doctor and do your check up.
If you undergo any sexual intercourse then be ensure to use condoms because it can reduce the risk of virus transmission.
It’s good for the pregnant women if they avoid traveling in affected countries.
The women who are planning to get pregnant should also avoid infection.
